Carl A. (Tony) Capozzola began his legal career as a prosecutor for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. After serving as a member of the Organized Crime Task Force, he left the office of the District Attorney to enter private practice. Upon entering private practice, Tony concentrated on criminal defense, while at the same time pursuing other endeavors associated with the legal profession. Tony was the editor, and with his wife Judy, published the California Looseleaf Search and Seizure Handbook, which was a legal reference book utilized by judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, law libraries, and law enforcement agencies throughout California.
In 1977 he joined with four other Italian lawyers to form the Italian American Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. With a substantial grant he obtained from Frank Sinatra, the organization formed a political action committee which was influential in fostering Italian culture and assisting qualified Italian American lawyers in their elevation to the bench. This vibrant organization continues today as one of the leading bar associations in California.
His legal career has included representation of clients ranging from celebrities such as Michael Jackson to indigents represented while he was a member of the Advisory Council of the Legal Services Corporation to which he was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown. In addition, his cases have included highly publicized international events, such as the Iranian crisis in which American diplomats were held hostage by the Iranian government in 1979, as well as his attendance at OPEC meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia. He has also lectured frequently on the subject of criminal law.
In addition to his legal services, he is the holder of an invention patent for a product designed to aid in child safety and holds several copyrights for publications which he has authored. Tony is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and has appeared in movies and television as a supporting actor. He was selected as the Outstanding Entertainment Attorney of the Year at the Ninth Annual LA Music Awards held at the House of Blues and was chosen as one of the most interesting people in Los Angeles by LA WEEKLY Magazine in 2014.
