About the Internships

The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles (IAMLA) seeks two qualified undergraduate candidates in the fields of museum studies, history, education, library studies, and other relevant fields, for a ten-week paid summer internship. Please note: There are two different internships offered, one that is exhibitions, collections, and research in focus, and a second, which is education, communications, and research in focus.

ABOUT THE ITALIAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF LOS ANGELES (IAMLA)

The IAMLA explores the Italian American experience in the context of the nation’s multicultural mosaic. The museum is located in downtown Los Angeles and features an award-winning permanent exhibition, which is also accessible online, as well as temporary exhibitions, and cultural-educational programming. The IAMLA is housed in the Italian Hall, which was constructed in 1908 as a community center and is listed on the National Register of Historic. EXHIBITION INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

The intern’s primary assignment will be to assist with the creation of an IAMLA temporary exhibition. Primary duties will include conducting guided research and preparing written summaries, sourcing images and artifacts. Assisting with loan requests, and preparing promotional materials. Intern will also assist with cataloging items in the IAMLA collection. This is an in-person internship that lasts ten consecutive weeks. Internship hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.. Attendance at five Getty sponsored intern events is required.

EDUCATION INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

The intern’s primary assignment will be to assist with the creation of an IAMLA educational materials and the coordination of public educational programming.. Primary duties will include conducting guided research, preparing written summaries, and devising educational activities. Intern will also assist with the creation of social media content and educational and promotional materials. This is an in-person internship that lasts ten consecutive weeks. Internship hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.. Attendance at five Getty sponsored intern events is required.

QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS:

The Getty requires that the intern be a member of an underrepresented group in professions related to museums, social science, and the arts. Internships are available to currently enrolled undergraduates. The IAMLA seeks an organized, highly reliable, motivated candidate who demonstrates initiative and a desire to conduct advanced research, who is interested in history and education. All applicants must 1) have completed at least one semester of college by June 2025; 2) be a resident of or attend college in Los Angeles County; 3) possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
